Harry Kane's England hat-tricks

What a night for England and what a night for Harry Kane.

The 80,366 in attendance at Wembley Stadium connected by EE will not forget Friday 12 November in a hurry and neither will the England captain.

Kane became the first player to score a ‘perfect hat-trick’ – when you score with both feet and your head – since David Platt did so in February 1993. For context, the Spurs striker was just five months old when the feat was last achieved.

It was Kane’s fifth hat-trick for his country, with four for the senior team and one for the under-21s.

His second and third goals against Albania tonight meant he broke the record for the most competitive goals for England. Kane now has 39 goals in 55 competitive games, surpassing Wayne Rooney who had scored 37.

Here we look at Kane’s England hat-tricks in detail.

San Marino 0-4 England under-21s – 10 October 2013

This was Kane’s first start for England MU21s and there was a familiar face in the dugout, with current senior boss Gareth Southgate in charge of the under-21s at the time.

Michael Keane had given the Young Lions an early lead and when San Marino went down to ten men after conceding a penalty just before the break, they knew they were in for a difficult night.

Kane, who would go on to score eight goals in 14 appearances for England under-21s, converted the spot kick and then added two close-range efforts in the second half.

Panama 1-6 England – June 28 2018

Kane would end the FIFA 2018 World Cup as the Golden Boot winner and his treble against Panama in the group stage played a big part in that.

The former Ridgeway Rovers youngster scored penalties midway through the first half and just before the interval, before adding a fourth just after the hour mark courtesy of a fortunate deflection from Ruben Loftus-Cheek's shot.

England 4-0 Bulgaria – September 7 2019

Kane’s ruthlessness from the penalty spot was once again evident when he helped England continue their 100 per cent record in UEFA Euro 2020 qualification against Bulgaria.

Raheem Sterling helped set up Kane for the first, with the striker producing a smart finish on the turn midway through the first half.

And then two penalties – one just after half-time and another on 73 minutes – helped extend his outstanding international record to 25 goals from 40 appearances.

England 7-0 Montenegro – 14 November 2019

England secured qualification for Euro 2020 – and celebrated their 1,000th game – in emphatic fashion with a 7-0 demolition of Montenegro.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had got the ball rolling but then three goals from Kane and one from Marcus Rashford meant the Three Lions led 5-0 by half-time, before an own goal and Tammy Abraham’s first for his country completed the rout.

Kane’s first-half hat-trick moved him past Frank Lampard, Alan Shearer, Nat Lofthouse and Tom Finney in the record books and up to sixth in the list of England’s leading goalscorers.

England 5-0 Albania – 12 November 2021

The Three Lions’ captain went into this FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifier under a bit of pressure after one goal in ten Premier League appearances this season.

However, Kane produced an exceptional first-half performance at Wembley Stadium to once again reinforce his importance to this England side.

The striker’s superb hold-up and link play was integral to a superb opening 45 minutes for the Three Lions and he grabbed the ‘perfect hat-trick’ in the process.

England were already 1-0 up thanks to Harry Maguire’s header when Kane made it 2-0 in the 18th minute by nodding in Jordan Henderson’s cross, following good work from Reece James.

Kane then helped set up Henderson for the third before he made it 4-0 with a shot which arrowed into the far top corner from inside the penalty area.

And the hat-trick was complete when he volleyed acrobatically into the roof of the net from Ben Chilwell’s corner.

San Marino 10-0 England – 15 November 2021

Just three days after his first-half hat-trick against Albania, Kane added another four goals in the first half against San Marino.

The first came via a penalty kick, which he sent down the middle of the goal, to make it 13 international goals for the year, which is an England record.

Debutant Emile Smith Rowe then set up him for a second and there was to be another penalty, this time an emphatic strike into the top corner, to compete the hat-trick.

And then some impressive footwork inside the penalty area provided the room needed to find the bottom corner and move up to third in the list of England men’s record goalscorers.
