Eight English officials have been selected by UEFA from PGMOL’s Select Group for this summer’s UEFA EURO 2024

Referees Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor, assistant referees Gary Beswick, Stuart Burt, Dan Cook and Adam Nunn as well as Stuart Attwell and David Coote, who will act as video assistant referees, are part of an elite group chosen for this summer's UEFA EURO 2024 tournament.

Their selections mean England will have the joint-highest number of refereeing teams at the tournament and only second to host nation Germany in terms of VARs included in the list.

It’s the second consecutive UEFA EUROs and third international tournament in a row for Oliver and Taylor, who were also chosen as part of an elite group of officials for the 2022 FIFA World Cup – only one of four nations to have two referees at the tournament.

Oliver was in charge of a quarter-final of the aforementioned FIFA World Cup and was selected for the UEFA Super Cup final in 2022, a final Taylor did in 2021 alongside the UEFA Nations League final, prior to the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Europa League finals in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

This is the first senior international tournament for assistant referee Cook, who has primarily operated in the Premier League since 2017.

The appointment marks another vote of confidence for trio Beswick, Nunn and Burt, who represented England alongside Taylor and Oliver at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Beswick and Nunn were also part of Taylor’s team to oversee last year’s FIFA Club World Cup Final in Morocco.

Attwell regularly operates as a VAR in European fixtures as does Coote, who will also be on duty Olympics over the summer in the same role.

Peter Elsworth, the FA’s head of referee operations said: “Our congratulations go to all of the match officials from England who have been selected to officiate at this summer’s UEFA EURO 2024. They have all worked incredibly hard to reach the top of the game and are an inspiration to the next generation of referees which continues to grow year on year.”
