A brace from debutant Mateo Joseph helped the Young Lions to victory over USA in southern Spain

England men’s under-20s got their second win of the month after a 4-2 victory over USA in Marbella on Saturday.

Ian Foster’s Young Lions are in Spain as they continue their preparations for the FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia this May.

Following on from Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Germany, the group swapped Manchester for the Marbella Football Centre and a match against another World Cup-bound opponent.

The head coach utilised his squad too, making ten changes to the team from Wednesday.

And they were rewarded with an early goal as Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph opened the scoring on his full debut after taking advantage of a short back pass into the box before rounding goalkeeper Gabriel Slolina and slotting home.

England doubled their advantage before the break too, as Joseph turned provider to tee up captain Harvey Vale before a hectic end to the half ensued.

The USA pulled a goal back three minutes later through Kevin Parades in the 37th minute, before England went straight back on the attack and Vale saw a shot hacked off the goal line.

And after a strong start to the second half, the States equalised in the 52nd minute via Owen Wolff’s back-heel finish.

They weren’t level for long though, as Jarell Quansah made it 3-2 just two minutes later before Joseph notched his second of the afternoon just after the hour mark to complete the scoring.

Foster’s team will be in action again on Tuesday afternoon when they play France (3pm BST) in their final match before the World Cup.
