England will be in the hat for the inaugural UEFA Women’s Nations League draw, which will be made on Tuesday 2 May.

Taking place at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, the draw ceremony will begin at midday BST and streamed live on UEFA’s website.

The competition will take on a similar format to the men's Nations League with 51 participating nations divided into three leagues (two of 16 and the other of 19) on the basis of their positions in the most recent women's national team coefficient rankings.

The league stage will determine which four teams progress to the finals (which will also act as Europe's 2024 Olympic qualifiers) and also promotion and relegation between the leagues ahead of the European Qualifiers phase for UEFA Women's EURO 2025.

Games in all three leagues will be played across the September, October and November 2023 international windows before the Finals will be held in February 2024. The Finals will also act as Europe’s 2024 Olympic qualifiers.

See below the split of nations into their respective league groups:-

League A (Draw of four groups of four teams): England, Germany, France, Sweden, Spain, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Iceland, Switzerland, Wales, Portugal, Scotland

League B (Draw of four groups of four teams): Republic of Ireland, Poland, Czech Republic, Finland, Serbia, Slovenia, Northern Ireland, Romania, Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia, Hungary, Greece, Croatia, Belarus, Albania

How will the groups stages work?

All matches in the league stage are played according to a league system, with each team playing one home match and one away match against each of the other teams in its group. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw, and none for a defeat.

The fixtures will be played on the following dates:

Matchdays 1–2: 20–26 September 2023
Matchdays 3–4: 25–31 October 2023
Matchdays 5–6: 29 November–5 December 2023

Who plays in the UEFA Women's Nations League finals and how is promotion and relegation settled?

The four League A group winners qualify for the knockout finals between 21 and 28 February 2023, which consist of two semi-finals, a third-place game and the final.

The teams which finish fourth in their League A groups will be relegated to League B and replaced by the winners of the groups in League B. For the third-placed teams in League A groups, they will play off against the second-placed teams from League B. This continues between Leagues B, C and D.
