England's Lucy Bronze speaks after scoring in win over Scotland
Lionesses star says opening goal against Scotland could find its origins in Australia
REPORT: ENGLAND v SCOTLAND
Lucy Bronze revealed her opening goal against Scotland in her native north east was actually crafted on England’s World Cup training pitch in Australia.
The Lionesses ace broke the deadlock in Sunderland, after her run into the box from the right was expertly picked out by Katie Zelem.
And after the Barcelona defender got on the right side of her defender, she planted a firm header home to get England’s UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign up and running.
“It was something we worked on in the World Cup,” revealed Bronze, who also began her career with Sunderland back in 2007.
“But it never came off then, so we saved it for tonight instead.”

The lead was doubled by Lauren Hemp six minutes later, with an unstoppable header on the other side following a sumptuous delivery from Rachel Daly.
But when Scotland pulled a goal back with the last kick of the first half through Kirsty Hanson, it led to some nervy moments after the break with the visitors providing a firm test for Sarina Wiegman’s team.
“Them [Scotland] getting that goal right before half time changed the momentum of the game,” added Bronze.
“Right until the end, they were creating chances but in the first half we did enough, we were by far the better side in that first half.

“The second half was a little bit more even, we made a couple more mistakes and they got a lot of confidence from scoring that goal in the first half.
“They looked a little shaky at the beginning and we looked a little more confident. A couple of sloppy passes on our behalf let them back in the game.”
England will now head across the North Sea to play the Netherlands in their second group game of the competition. That game takes place on Tuesday evening (7pm BST) in Utrecht.
