Lions' Den | Episode One

Jordan Pickford and Kieran Trippier star in the first edition of our daily summer series

Pickford said: "We had the base camp last week and then getting out here on Monday was the exciting part of it.

"It's a great setup. The first couple of days we were getting into it and today we started working on Serbia so the focus is on getting ready from here."

Both players are set to feature in their fourth major tournament for England and Trippier knows their experience is vital in a squad featuring plenty of fresh faces.

He said: "When I arrived we had so many experienced players like Harty [Joe Hart], Gaz [Gary] Cahill, and I've been lucky to be part of this journey for so long. For our fourth tournament we'll try to use or experiences, because we've been here the longest and we've got so many young players in this squad now. We want them to express themselves and most importantly for them to be happy.

"It is nerve-wracking for young lads because it comes with more media, it comes with more pressure. It's our responsibility to take that off them. Even though they are playing at a big level, playing for England is a different type of pressure and it's our job to help. For some of them it's their first tournament, first time away from families."

And the full-back is sure the inexperienced players within the camp will soon begin to show off their personalities even more.

He said: "Some of them have got good banter but we will bring it out of them even more. Give it two weeks and things will spice up."

Pickford added: "Cole [Palmer] is funny. For the lads who come in for the first time it's easy because the camp we have is so good. The senior lads, the togetherness as a group, it's easy for any new lad to come in. That comes from the manager, it's the type of environment he wants, and since 2018 it's been like that."

Palmer will be joined by midfielder Kobbie Mainoo on tomorrow's episode of Lions' Den, which will be live at 2.30pm BST on all channels.
