Erica Parkinson's World Cup diary
Zara Shaw is the second England women’s Under-17s player to provide an update from the Young Lionesses World Cup camp in Dominican Republic…
We’ve finished a week’s training camp in Miami and now we are settled in the Dominican Republic ahead of our first game against Kenya tonight.
The camp there got us used to the time difference and the climate, which are obviously big differences from back home. It was very valuable and we also got training sessions in the bank that we needed to keep learning as a team.
We’re always trying to get better and I think the whole experience was really beneficial.
The humidity is the main thing you need to adjust to. It’s so sticky and hot but we’re getting there now.
It’s amazing here in the Dominican Republic. The weather is nice, the facilities are great and we’ve got our own little camp in the hotel. The staff here are lovely. Everything is perfect for us and should mean we perform at our best.
All of our group games are going to be tough and we’re expecting a fast, physical opponent in Kenya. They’ll pose us a different type of challenge to what we might be used to and it’ll be beneficial for us moving forward. We are confident we can get something from the game.
I’ve got my dad coming out and I know all the girls have got some family coming over. We’ve got support from everyone back home as well and it’s nice to have that feeling. They can’t wait, they’re buzzing, and they can’t wait for us to crack on.
