England will begin their Euro Elite League campaign in October when they face Romania and Portugal.

Led by interim head coach Joe Edwards, the squad enjoyed a training camp at St. George’s Park in September as they prepared for their first games of the 2023-24 season.

And Edwards has named a 21-man squad for the double-header which sees them head to Bucharest first, where they will take on Romania at the Arc de Triumf venue on Thursday 12 October (5pm BST).

It’s then back to home soil for their second game of the window, which sees the visit of Portugal to Stadium MK in Milton Keynes on Tuesday 17 October (7pm BST) for which tickets are on sale now.

Formerly known as the MU20s, the England Men’s Elite League squad is open for players born between 1 January 2002 and 31 December 2004 and will see them in action against Romania, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Czechia, Poland and Netherlands across the rest of the season.

-“It’s incredibly exciting to see our new Elite Men’s League Squad in action for the first time in 2023-24,” said Edwards, who will be in charge of the squad until the end of 2023.

“The tournament itself is in its infancy but the idea behind it ensures that there are opportunities for those players who fall outside of the traditional MU17 and MU19 age groups.

“There has been this gap between the MU19s and the MU21s – who obviously have regular tournaments to look forward to – that needed filling, and this tournament will help in that process.

“With this competition, there’s also been an opening up of the age band, so players born in 2004, are traditionally your MU20s players. But we’re also able to call up players born in 2002 and 2003 as well so you really have what could be viewed as an under-22 competition.

“We’re in a league format with seven other nations and it’s going to be hugely competitive. But it’s great that in every international camp these boys are going to attend this year, they’re playing a competitive fixture against a top nation.”
