ACCESS THE NUFFIELD HEALTH OFFER

My England Football fans can start the new year with a bang, thanks to a special offer from Nuffield Health, the official health and wellbeing partner of England teams.

As we work together to improve the health of the nation, members of My England Football - which is free to join - can take advantage of a free seven-day guest pass to any Nuffield Health fitness & wellbeing centre in England, equipped with a gym, swimming pool, steam room and sauna.

It comes at a great time of year with 2024 now underway, as when it comes to our health and wellbeing, guidelines suggest 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week, or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity for everyone. Within these recommendations, it’s suggested to incorporate a combination of exercise types, with strength-based activities undertaken twice per week.

And the latest findings from Nuffield Health’s Healthier Nation Index has highlighted a startling gender disparity within this recommendation.

The study not only shows that 76 per cent of people do not reach the NHS recommendations of moderate/vigorous activity, but that women, in particular, are not adhering to the recommended types of exercise. Only 28 per cent of women believe strength-based exercises should be performed twice per week and, of those surveyed, just 15 per cent chose to do strengthening exercises, over other types of activity, during the same period.

So to kick-start 2024 and beyond, Nuffield Health are aiming to break down barriers to exercise, including strength-based training, to help empower women to embrace resistance workouts as part of their weekly routines and reap the benefits of this form of exercise on their health and wellbeing.

To support those interested in trying resistance training and other forms of strength-based activities, Nuffield Health will be sharing expert advice and guidance on its website and YouTube channel throughout January and beyond. This includes addressing some of the common misconceptions associated with this type of training, tips to help you get started as well as ways to amplify a workout for those looking for the next level.

This is part of Nuffield Health’s new campaign to encourage the nation to focus on their health and wellbeing throughout 2024 so to kick-start your goals or find out more about the special offer here.
