The midfielder claims the Lionesses were back at their best as they beat the Netherlands 4-0 in Zurich.

MATCH REPORT: England 4-0 Netherlands

Georgia Stanway was delighted that England showed their true selves as they beat Netherlands 4-0 in their second match of EURO 2025.

The midfielder scored an excellent second goal of the game from distance, with Lauren James’ brace and Ella Toone’s strike completing the scoring.

Stanway felt this was the Lionesses back at their best – and singled the superb James out for special praise.

She said: “This was about showing who we are, we wanted to go back to proper England.

“We fought from the very first minute until the very last and LJ set the tone. We all just followed.

“She’s class, she brings something different to what we’ve got. You give LJ the ball, you know she is going to run through everybody and try and get her shot off.

“If LJ is confident then that is what we want because we want her to enjoy herself, to play with freedom.

“Everybody else has got to do their job in order for LJ to do hers.”

Stanway’s goal was another stand-out moment of the evening, a fizzing effort that settled any nerves just before half-time.

She added: “I think it took a little deflection, I’ll have to watch it back.

“I was happy to have made it 2-0 and when we got it to three that is when we can settle a little bit. If we’d opened the doors and they’d got one back, you never know what can happen.”
