England women’s under-17s kicked off round two of their UEFA Women’s U17 European Championship qualifying campaign with a win against Türkiye.

The Young Lionesses went ahead on the stroke of half time through Bryony Brodie, taking a slender lead into the break.

With around 20 minutes left on the clock in the second period, Freya Hirons doubled the advantage.

England’s opponents responded five minutes later as Ela Tong pulled a goal back, halving the deficit. However, Kerri Welsh’s side held on for victory.

The WU17s are back in action against Croatia on Monday 16 March as they look to book their place in this summer’s tournament in Northern Ireland.
