Another 'perfect night' for Harry

Three Lions captain takes his EURO 2020 tally to three goals to help England reach semi-final

Captain Harry Kane reflected on a ‘perfect night’ in Rome and bringing his long-term vision for England to fruition.

Kane was at the double for Gareth Southgate’s side in their 4-0 win over Ukraine at the Stadio Olimpico, opening the scoring and then solidifying the lead in between Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson headers.

England looked a force to be reckoned with going forward and once again remained unbreached at the back to make it five consecutive clean sheets at UEFA EURO 2020.

“What a great performance in a big game," said Kane.

"There was a lot of pressure on us – of course we were favourites to win this game but there was a lot of pressure so to perform like we did was top drawer.

“Four goals and a clean sheet, it’s a perfect night for us.”

The 27 year old now has 37 goals in 59 appearances for his country, and nine in major tournaments having finished top scorer at the 2018 World Cup.

And England’s status as semi-finalists is exactly where the skipper anticipated the team being prior to the tournament in Russia three years ago.

Now it’s Denmark that stands in their way of reaching a first major final since 1966 and realising the potential that Kane always believed was there.

“It’s where we wanted to be," he added.

"We set out a vision before the World Cup of what we wanted to achieve, where we wanted to go and take this team. We are knocking it off step by step.

“The World Cup was great but we fell short, we had a good run in the Nations League and now we’re in another semi-final.

“Now it’s about getting over the line and getting over the next step, that’s what we’ve got to do on Wednesday.”
