Back with a bang!

Lions’ Den is finally back on your screens and this time it’s host Josh Denzel that will be bringing you all the behind-the-scenes action from the camp at St. George’s Park.

First in the hot seat was Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who enjoyed a spectacular season scoring 25 times for club and country including a double against San Marino back in March.

The 24 year old sat down to discuss England’s opportunity to bring the country together once more, take some questions from fans, cast his eye over some of the best social media posts and even sink a few buckets in the Lions’ Den basketball challenge.

“It’s been a difficult period of time for everyone and now us as England representatives have the opportunity to uplift the nation,” Calvert-Lewin told England fan Rob, who joined the Den via an interactive fan wall which is open to members of My England Football.

“Everybody loves football and everybody loves to watch England in major competitions so it’s up to us now to help spread happiness.

“We all saw what happened when England reached the World Cup semi-finals so it’s something us as players are really aware of.”

Lions' Den - Episode 1

Josh Denzel kicks-off the 2021 series of Lions' Den with a guest appearance from Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Football wasn’t the only topic of conversation on the agenda as fellow England fan Lucy wanted to know whether the Toffees striker had been asked for fashion advice by any other players.

Off the pitch, Calvert-Lewin has gained a reputation in the fashion world by making bold statements, regularly attending New York Fashion Week and even turning up to his first England camp in a baker boy cap.

It was just a straightforward shorts and t-shirt job for his appearance on Lions’ Den, although he did accessorise with a butterfly pendant which often features on his Instagram captions.

“I was having a conversation last week in camp actually with Sanch [Jadon Sancho] and he wasn’t asking for advice but we were talking about how you need to stay true to who you are and what you like to wear and things like that,” he said.

“He mentioned about me and my friend Davo [Tom Davies] going to New York Fashion Week and how maybe that might’ve set a little trend off for players willing to express themselves a bit more. Whether that looks good or not is open to interpretation.

“I’ve always been confident in myself and my own skin, so the clothes I choose to put on my back are just an extension of my personality and who I am.

“We're very stuck in routines as footballers and a lot of decisions are made for us so it’s a bit of freedom for me to express myself and I feel good when I’m doing it.”

Calvert-Lewin rounded off his Den appearance with a cameo on the basketball court, scoring eight points and winning Lucy a signed ball and shirt and entry into a matchday prize draw.
