If I could...with Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire becomes the latest England star to answer a host of questions starting with ‘If I could’

1) If I could…play alongside one player from the history of world football, it would be…
…Bobby Moore. He was obviously the centre back in the World Cup-winning team and a big inspiration so I would pick Bobby Moore.

2) If I could…improve one part of my game today, it would be…
…becoming the fastest player on the pitch. I am someone who is always looking to improve parts of my game.

3) If I could…take one part of an England team-mate’s game, it would be…
Kyle Walker’s speed. He is lightning and it helps him cover so well and one-versus-one no one can get past him because he is that quick. As a defender, being that quick would be nice!

4) If I could…go back to one event in history, it would be…
…the Russia World Cup in 2018. It was obviously a great event for us and as a country. With the fans, the following, the support, I would definitely go back to the Russia World Cup and would replay that semi-final please!

5) If I could…change one thing about the world, it would be…
…now there are a lot of things which could be changed about the world but I would probably go with racism. We have experienced it in football and been involved in games where it has happened to us. It is obviously really disappointing to be happening in this modern era. So I would go with racism but there are a lot of things we could change in the world for the better.

6) If I could…change one thing about football, it would be…
…the same answer in terms of going down the racism route and the fans who misbehave. It is a minority of people, we understand that, but we could still do a lot better on that front so I would definitely go with racism because we have experienced it with the national team.

7) If I could…give my eight-year-old self one bit of advice, it would be…
…to always believe in your dreams. As an eight-year-old, I had a big dream to play for my country and to play for a big club in the Premier League and I am doing both so I would say to always believe and really push yourself.

8) If I could…speak to that child who is considering joining their local team but isn’t sure, I would tell them…
…that if it is something which you enjoy and it is something which makes you smile then go for it. When you are a young boy, you need to follow something that makes you happy and makes you smile so if football is that and you have great belief and dedication, then go out there and enjoy it.

9) If I could…only eat one item of food for the rest of my life, it would be…
…pasta. Not sure if it comes under a pasta dish but I love lasagne and I love all sorts of pasta – tagliatelle, penne, all sorts - I eat a lot of pasta.

10) If I could…choose who would play me in the film of my life story, it would be…
…Daniel Craig. Now he has finished James Bond, he probably has a lot of time on his hands and has been brilliant. I watched the new Bond recently and he was amazing so I would go with him.

11) If I could…invite three guests around for dinner, it would be…
…Bobby Moore. I would love to have a chat with him about what he achieved in the World Cup. I would say David Beckham because I haven’t really had the chance to meet him yet so it would be interesting to chat with him and I grew up idolising him as a young boy in the playground – everyone did, trying to take free-kicks like him. And then I would go for Tiger Woods. I’m sure he would have some great stories.

12) If I could…have a second dream job, I would be…
…a golfer. Definitely. It is my second hobby so whenever I have time and it is not too close to a game then I generally go out and try to take my mind off things. It is nice and peaceful going around the golf course.

13) If I could…be one person for a day, it would be…
…one of the European lads playing in the Ryder Cup. Any of them. So John Rahm or Rory McIlroy in that final Sunday of the Ryder Cup.
