England’s Chloe Kelly picked the perfect time to score her first senior goal for the Lionesses, with her extra-time strike sealing victory over Germany and a first EURO title.

The Manchester City forward came on as a second-half substitute to notch the winning goal in extra time after the final ended 1-1 after 90 minutes at a pulsating Wembley Stadium.

And Kelly, who grew up just a few miles away from the national stadium in west London, was lost for words after the game.

“Honestly, it's amazing,” she said.

“Thank you everyone that came out to support us, this is what dreams are made of.

“As a young girl watching women's football now this, wow it is unbelievable.”
What makes Kelly’s story even more remarkable is how she was a late arrival into Sarina Wiegman’s squad this season after coming back from a serious knee injury.

“Thank you to everyone who played a part in my rehab because I always believed that I would be here,” she added.

“But to be here and score the winner, wow. These girls are special, the manager is special and what a special group of staff. This is amazing.

“All my family, my mum, all my brothers, my sister, all my nephews, everyone. Honestly, this is amazing I just want to celebrate now.”

And with that, she disappeared back into the throng for the next rendition of ‘Sweet Caroline’….
