Three Lions boss assesses his team's performance in Munich as they pick up a point against Germany
England boss Gareth Southgate believes his side were well worthy of their point against Germany in Munich on Tuesday night.

It took a late penalty from Harry Kane to secure a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena, to earn the Three Lions their first point in the new UEFA Nations League campaign.

And the manager felt England fully deserved the draw after bouncing back from the disappointment of their defeat to Hungary at the weekend.

"I think we played well, we've come to one of the most difficult places to come in world football and more than held our own," said Southgate.

"In the first half I thought the game was there for us but we've let ourselves down with the quality of our passing and that needed tidying up.

"In the second half, we started poorly, a bit passive in the lead up to their goal but the passing involved was the sort of thing the top teams do and Jordan will feel he should've done better with the finish.

"But the response to that was outstanding and we created more than enough chances to get the draw and it was well deserved."

"I thought the allround attacking performance showed promise against a very good side."

The squad now return back to their base at St. George's Park where they will turn their attention to Saturday's game with Italy at Molineux before they take on Hungary again at the same venue on Tuesday 14 June.

"The weekend was a disappointment of course, but to get the performance we did tonight we had to keep some of the players fresh because you're flat out in these games, mentally, physically, tactically, it's a real test," he added.

"I'm really pleased we've come through a tough test, if we're going to be a good team we have to come to these places and get results."
