England’s official FIFA esports team, the eLions, will be aiming to book their place in the 2022 FIFAe Nations Cup when they take part in the Playoffs this week.

The three players selected for this week’s Playoff matches are MHaywxrd (Mitch Hayward), Tekkz (Donovan Hunt) and XL Tom (Tom Leese), with the trio selected based on performances for the eLions during the qualifying months.

The squad booked their place in this week’s Playoffs after topping their group during the Play-Ins, which took place between December and April.

The eLions are in Group C for the European region’s Playoffs, alongside Bosnia & Herzegovina, Greece, Malta, and Spain.

The countries will play each other twice, once on Thursday and again on Friday, hoping to secure a top-four finish to make it through to the round of 16 on Saturday.

From there, the eight teams who reach the quarter-finals will qualify for the Nations Cup alongside hosts Denmark, with a further three places up for grabs during the Playoffs.

The teams that finish bottom of the four groups will enter the ‘Second Chance Bracket’ alongside those defeated in the round of 16.

The two teams that reach the ‘Second Chance’ final will then qualify for the Nations Cup, while the two defeated semi-finalists will compete in the ‘Third Chance Final’ in a bid to secure the last qualification spot.

The end goal is to be one of the 11 teams from Europe and 23 teams globally that will qualify and compete alongside hosts, Denmark, at the 2022 FIFAe Nations Cup in Copenhagen between July 27-30.

All of England’s Playoff matches can be watched live on England’s official Twitch channel, hosted by Richard Buckley and FIFA Analyst. The full schedule of the eLions’ group games can be seen below.
