James McAtee has been called up to join Lee Carsley’s England MU21s squad ahead of their 2023 U21 EURO qualifiers against Albania, Kosovo and Slovenia.

The 19 year old has made six substitute appearances for Manchester City’s first team this season and has starred for the Under-23 side in Premier League 2, scoring 18 goals in 23 outings and picking up the trophy for the competition’s Player of the Season.

“We really rate him highly,” Carsley said. “He can play anywhere: seven, eleven, ten, nine, eight. He's a good footballer. I was lucky to see him at City when I was there with the younger age groups. He's one we've kept an eye constantly.”
