A double from Lucia Kendall helps England WU19s to victory in Portugal

England women’s Under-19s got their Algarve Cup campaign underway with a 2-1 win against Norway.

Coaches Emma Coates and Gemma Davies have taken a development squad covering two age groups to Portugal, with this the first of three matches taking place for the Under-19s and Under-18s during the next week.

Coates’ WU19s had taken the lead around the hour mark through Lucia Kendall at the Stadium Vila Real de Santo Antonio but the advantage was short-lived as Norway responded almost immediately through captain Signe Gaupset.

But with just a few minutes remaining, Kendall grabbed her second of the game to secure victory.

Next up for the Young Lionesses development squad will be the Under-18s’ match with Portugal tonight at 7pm, before the WU19s will be back in action on Monday against the Netherlands (1pm).
