England men's under-19s made a winning start to their UEFA U19 EURO elite qualifying round on Wednesday evening, with a 3-1 victory over Republic of Ireland in Walsall.
The Young Lions host the group this month, with only the top nation progressing to this summer's U19 EURO FInals in Slovakia.
And Ian Foster's team went about their business quickly, with Dane Scarlett opening the scoring after just five minutes. The goal came after Harvey Vale delivered a cross from the left with the Spurs ace sending a fine header into the top-left corner to put the hosts ahead
With half time on the horizon, Ireland drew level in the 38th minute through James Abankwah only for England's Carney Chukwuemeka to restore the lead four minutes later.
The Aston Villa midfielder then added his second of the night just two minutes into the second half to provide a two-goal advantage which England didn't relinquish to pick up the three points.
In the group's other game earlier on Wednesday, Portugal ran out as 4-0 winners over Armenia at St. George's Park.
