Para Lions finish IBSA World Championship on a high with victory in Birmingham

England men's blind team finished their ISBSA World Championship campaign in 13th place, after a 1-0 victory over Mexico in Birmingham.

It was Efe Shimwell's first-half goal which earned the Para Lions a deserved victory in their final game of the competition.

The goal came when Brandon Coleman's pass from the right found the teenager on the edge of the area and he managed to evade two defenders before lifting a shot over Mexican keeper Gevdiel Martinez.

Having been the better side in the first half, Mexico re-emerged for the second period with more vigour as they chased a way back into the game.

But Para Lions 'keeper Sam Marsden was kept well protected by his team-mates and if anything it was England who could have extended their lead with Shimwell almost getting a second goal before seeing his shot over the bar.

England: 13 Sam Marsden, 3 Owen Bainbridge, 4 Azeem Amir,7 Brandon Coleman 8 Efe Shimwell.

Substitutes: Dylan Malpas, Daniel English, Roy Turnham, Eesa Amjid

Head coach: Adam Bendall
