Young Lionesses begin tournament in Spain with narrow defeat
England women’s under-19s were unfortunate to end on the losing side against Germany in their opening game of La Nucia International Tournament in Spain.

Emma Coates and her side are in Alicante for the tournament this week and kicked-off against the Germans on Thursday evening.

And after falling behind to their opponents just after the quarter-hour mark, Freya Godfrey equalised within five minutes with a smart finish when one-on-one with the ‘keeper.

It was all square at the break and there were chances at both ends in the second half for either team to snatch the win.

But it was Germany who made the breakthrough, scoring in the 81st minute to make a winning start to the tournament.

The Young Lionesses will be back in action on Tuesday 21 February, when they take on Switzerland at La Nucia Stadium.
