Young Lions coach will be reunited with former team-mate and England legend Steven Gerrard in the Saudi Professional League

Ian Foster has left the FA to take up a role with Saudi Professional League club Al Ettifaq.

The 46 year old joins former England captain Steven Gerrard’s backroom staff with immediate effect.

It brings to an end Foster’s successful six-year spell at the organisation, during which he worked across a variety of England teams.

The highlight of that period was leading the MU19s to the U19 EURO crown in Slovakia last summer. That success secured qualification for this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina with Foster taking charge of the group that reached the round of 16

Prior to his roles as head coach of the MU19s and MU20s, the former striker took charge of the MU18s and was also part of the MU17 backroom team that finished runners up at the 2017 U17 EURO in Croatia before lifting the FIFA U17 World Cup in India later that year.

Foster’s expertise was also utilised with the England senior women’s team following a spell as Phil Neville’s assistant.

We wish him well for the next stage of his career.
