How does the holy month of Ramadan affect Muslims who play football at any level? Find out more with England Football's guidance for 2023

We have published guidance to support participants and employees across the footballing community during the holy month of Ramadan, which began on Wednesday 22 March and is expected to last until Friday 21 April.

The guide includes information on how fasting and other lifestyle changes during this period may impact participants across adult and youth football, with advice on exercise and nutrition for practising Muslims, as well as guidance for non-Muslim players and staff to ensure their footballing environment is as inclusive and welcoming as possible.

The guidance, which can be viewed here, was created with input from Nujum Sports, and aims to answer many of the questions that players, coaches and administrators may have around Ramadan and how it might affect football at any level.

Meanwhile, Wembley Stadium will also be hosting a Ramadan Open Iftar on Saturday 15 April, which will see ‘Iftar’ prepared and offered to Muslims observing Ramadan when breaking their fast.

At this event, hosted with our event partners Ramadan Tent Project, our aim is to:-

- Engage with Muslims across the country in an evening of interactive panels including professional players, coaches and off-the-pitch professionals from across the game.

- Hold prayers led by an Imam from pitch-side of Wembley’s hallowed turf.

- Provide a full meal following the breaking of fast for all those observing Ramadan.
