Young Lionesses will now continue their preparations for round one of qualifying for the 2023-24 UEFA European Women's Under-17 Championship

England women’s under-17s and Germany ended this camp with a victory apiece following their double header, as the visitors won 2-0 at St. George’s Park on Monday afternoon.

The Young Lionesses had been 3-0 winners on Friday thanks to a brace by Isabella Fisher and a goal from Laila Herbert.

But on this occasion, it was Germany who secured the win courtesy of goals from Rosa Ruckert and Emilia Grund.

Both teams are currently preparing for round one of qualifying for the 2023-24 UEFA European Women's Under-17 Championship, with England WU17s set to face Northern Ireland (November 4), Hungary (November 7) and Belgium (November 10) in Group A6, with the top three from each League A group progressing to the second round of qualifying in early 2024.

Natalie Henderson made five changes to the side that beat Germany 3-0 on Friday, with Scarlet Hill, Emily Cassap, Rachel Maltby, Simone Sherwood and Laiba Khan all coming into the team.

Both sides had chances to take the lead in the first half, as the visitors fired just over the bar on the break before England’s Rachel Maltby was put through one-on-one, only for Germany goalkeeper Romy Brautigam to save well with an outstretched leg.

Germany had a glorious opportunity to take the lead from the penalty spot shortly before half time but Ruckert’s effort was straight down the middle and saved by Arsenal goalkeeper Hope McSheffrey.

It was the visitors who were to break the deadlock on the hour though as Ruckert applied the finish following a low cross into the box.

Germany then added a second goal with five minutes remaining, as Grund was put through on the counter and, under pressure, shot low to the goalkeeper’s right from just outside the box.

England almost set up a tense finish when Erica Parkinson had an effort from outside the box tipped over the bar and another couple of shots go just wide but it was to finish 2-0 to Germany.
