England's 2024-25 UEFA Nations League draw
Three Lions find out who they will face in the Nations League as they chase promotion
England now know who they will face in the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League following Thursday night’s draw.
The Three Lions will take on Finland, Republic of Ireland and Greece as they chase promotion back to League A following their relegation last time out.
England will face all three teams home and away across six matchdays between September 2024 and November 2024.
With the Three Lions now in League B, they are unable to win the tournament this time around but topping the group would see them automatically promoted back to League A, whilst the runners-up in League B also have the chance to play home-and-away matches between the third-ranked teams in League A for another shot at promotion.
The provisional fixture dates have also been set, with venues and kick-off times to be confirmed.
Republic of Ireland v England - Saturday 7 September 2024
England v Finland - Tuesday 10 September 2024
England v Greece - Thursday 10 October 2024
Finland v England - Sunday 13 October 2024
Greece v England - Thursday 14 November
England v Republic of Ireland - Sunday 17 November 2024
England manager Gareth Southgate was among those in attendance and spoke to the media after the draw.
He said: “Obviously there is still a bit of a hangover for us from being in this league so that is the first thing because we have to try to get ourselves back up into League A.
“In terms of the games, there are some good quality games and of course a couple of teams that we haven't played for quite a while, and there have been some memorable games against some of those teams as well in the past.”
Later he added: “We have had some really varied experiences in the Nations League.
“The first time we finished third, the second time was complicated for us and in all three versions, we've used it to look at players, where, of course, you have to balance seeing players with winning games, and we didn't manage to do that last time.
“So, the competition pairs the best with the best and my impressions of it [as a competition] have been really good.
“Unfortunately, the second one reminds me of Covid a lot of the time and the third one, we didn't play well, and it was the build up to a World Cup, so that was complicated for us.”
