If I could…with Trent Alexander-Arnold

Written by:

Frank Smith

We sat down with Liverpool’s talented full-back-cum-midfielder to answer a host of questions starting with If I Could

1) If I could…play alongside one player from the history of world football, it would be…

… ooo that is a tough one that. I loved Steven Gerrard but I loved watching Thierry Henry as well. When you watched Match of the Day as a kid, you would be watching Arsenal because you knew Henry would do something special in every single game. I loved the way he played so I would have to say Thierry Henry.

2) If I could…improve one part of my game today, it would be…

… goalscoring.

3) If I could…take one part of an England team-mate’s game, it would be…

probably Phil Foden’s left foot. I have always been envious of players who could use both feet so if I could have Phil’s left foot and my right foot that would be great.

4) If I could…go back to one event in history, it would be…

… Martin Luther King’s famous speech. I would love to have been there.

5) If I could…change one thing about the world, it would be…

… more positivity and more love; to have less hate in the world.

6) If I could…change one thing about football, it would be…

… I often think about this kind of thing and I have two things. For fun, I would say whoever wins the penalty has to take it. But more practically, to stop time-wasting, I would just stop the clock like they do in America. When the ball is out of play, why aren’t we stopping the clock? That just seems to make sense to me rather than adding it on at the end. Then the element of time-wasting is gone.

7) If I could…give my eight-year-old self one bit of advice, it would be…

… to always enjoy yourself and to always believe in yourself.

8) If I could…speak to that child who is considering joining their local team but isn’t sure, I would tell them…

… go for it! I always think back to those times as the best, even now. I love the game and enjoy it but back then when you would be playing with your friends and there was no pressure, those were the best days. I’m sure a lot of people would say that.

9) If I could…only eat one item of food for the rest of my life, it would be…

… pasta. I am a big pasta man. I like all kinds of pasta: bolognaise, spicy tomato, creamy…I like all kinds of pasta!

10) If I could…choose who would play me in the film of my life story, it would be…

… probably Michael B. Jordan.

11) If I could…invite three guests around for dinner, it would be…

… Barack Obama, Michael Jordan and Usain Bolt.

12) If I could…have a second dream job, I would be…

… tennis player or F1 driver. I love to play tennis during the off-season and I love my F1 as well – obviously it is a lot easier to play tennis than it is do some F1! So I would say a tennis player.

13) If I could…be one person for a day, it would be…

… someone who scored the winner in a World Cup final. I would love just to have that feeling.
