Young Lions to host Luxembourg in Lancashire

England men’s under-21s will head to Bolton for their UEFA U21 EURO qualifier against Luxembourg on Tuesday 26 March (kick-off at 7pm GMT).

The Young Lions will be back in action for the first time in 2024 when they face their next set of games in the race to qualify for the U21 EURO Finals in Slovakia in the summer of 2025.

And following their trip to face Azerbaijan on Friday 22 March, Lee Carsley’s squad will return to home soil for their second game of the international window which will be staged at Bolton Wanderers FC.

It will be the first time England MU21s have played a game at the venue since September 2002, when the Young Lions shared a 1-1 draw with Yugoslavia*. Shaun Wright-Phillips scored the goal that day, in a team containing the likes of Jermain Defoe, Jermaine Jenas, Michael Carrick and Gareth Barry.

The fixture could also see a return to Bolton for Young Lions’ goalkeeper James Trafford, who spent a successful 18 months on loan with Wanderers from Manchester City between January 2022 and May 2023.

England kicked-off their campaign last September against Luxembourg, when goals from Liam Delap, Cole Palmer and Callum Doyle secured a 3-0 win in Differdange.
