Report: Turkiye 2-0 England men's deaf
Para Lions miss out on semi-final spot after suffering defeat to the host nation
England’s challenge for the Deaf EUROs title came to an end on Tuesday morning in Antalya, following a defeat against the host nation Turkiye.
The Para Lions came into their first knockout game on the back of an impressive group stage which saw victories over Wales, Greece, Scotland and Germany.
But they couldn’t edge past the home team at the Calista Sports Arena, with Turkiye taking the lead after 30 minutes when a swift counter attack and direct pass through the middle saw the hosts’ striker produce a fine lobbed finish to open the scoring.
They doubled their advantage ten minutes into the second half, after England’s defence had cleared a dangerous set-piece only for the ball to be recycled into the box before a neat finish made it 2-0.
Joint coaches Sam Sharman, Will Perkins and Tony Elliott will now turn their attentions to their first placing match on Wednesday afternoon against Poland, before they play their final placing game on Friday.
