ENGLAND PARA: FIND OUT MORE

It was a busy weekend for two of our England men’s para teams, with both the Powerchair and cerebral palsy squads in action.

With the deaf men’s squad currently out in Turkiye at their EUROs, our Powerchair team made a trip north of the border for the Home Nations Tournament in Scotland, which took in three games and ended up with the Para Lions coming home with a trophy.

First up was a game with Northern Ireland, which yielded a 4-1 victory thanks to goals from Dan McLellan (2), Tyler Reeve and Marcus Harrison before captain Jon Bolding scored the winner against Republic of Ireland in the second game.

A 4-0 win against host nation Scotland followed thanks to a brace from Edward Common and further strikes from McLellan and Harrison.

That set up a final game against Northern Ireland, where another pair of goals from Harrison and one from Bolding secured a 3-0 win and a successful trip.

On top of that, Harrison’s flurry of goals saw him finish as top goalscorer in the tournament, as well as both him and Bolding being selected by their peers for the team of the tournament.

Andy Smith’s CP team were in the Netherlands for two senior games and two development team games against their hosts at the Dutch national football centre in Zeist.

The Para Lions also enjoyed their trip even more after securing four victories against their opponents over the two days.

In the first game, it ended 5-1 to England at senior level with Matty Crossen, Sam Dewhirst (2), James Blackwell and an own goal sealing victory before game two was a 3-1 win thanks to a brace from Crossen and a goal from Ethan Day.
