England were beaten 5-1 by Ukraine at the Partially Sighted EUROs despite a competitive performance for the majority of the game.

The Young Lions pulled level with just 13 minutes remaining through Andy Cahill but their opponents clicked into gear and ended up comfortable winners.

England had the better of the early exchanges, keeping possession nicely, but were unable to fashion too many clear chances.

And they were soon hit by a sucker punch at the other end when Ukraine took the lead on nine minutes after a nicely-worked move.

The Para Lions continued to play some nice football either side of half-time, firing off shots from long distance and tight angles as Ukraine defended strongly.

It was a long-range strike that did eventually pull England level, with Andy Cahill shooting low into the corner after seven minutes of the second period to make it 1-1.

Ukraine did not take that equaliser lying down, though, and stunned England with two goals in a minute midway through the half.

Two smart finishes were enough to pull clear and leave John Tapia-Owens’ side with a lot to do.

With six minutes remaining, a fourth goal followed to put the game well beyond England, before Ukraine scored again a couple of minutes later to make it 5-1.

England can still make Sunday’s final should they beat Spain in their final group match on Friday.
