Head coach John Salomon has announced the group heading to Alicante to prepare for EUROs qualifying later in the year

Head coach John Salomon has selected a 24-player squad for an England women's Under-17 camp in Spain.

The Young Lionesses are back in action and will kick off the 2024-25 season with two international fixtures against Spain in Alicante.

Salomon’s side will face Spain twice over the course of the week, first on Tuesday 10 September (11:00 BST) and then on Thursday 12 September (11:00 BST). The fixtures will be important preparation for the WU17s as they gear up for round one of qualification for the 2025 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship which will take place in October.

The group travelling to Spain and participating in the European qualifying fixtures is different to the WU17s squad that head coach Natalie Henderson will be taking to the Dominican Republic in October to compete in the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Henderson’s side made history back in May by reaching the EURO final for the first time and qualifying for the World Cup for just the third time in the age group’s history.

John Salomon said: "We’re really looking forward to getting everyone together and starting the season in Spain. Playing Spain twice over the course of a three-day period is the exact preparation we need for round one of EURO qualification when we know we’ll face quality European opponents in a compact timeframe.

"The fact we have two WU17s squads at the same time shows just how strong our pathway is at the moment. We’re looking forward to another exciting season for our Young Lionesses where we hope we’ll be competing in more finals and tournaments, giving invaluable experience to our players as they progress with their development."
