England men’s under-21s star Divin Mubama has carried over his club form to the international stage, finding the back of the net against the Republic of Ireland for the Young Lions.

But, according to the Stoke City forward, it’s important to take his game step by step.

“You want to play week in, week out,” said Mubama, who made the scoresheet on Friday as England continued their 2027 U21 EURO qualification campaign. “That’s the goal – developing each week and being around the international setup, which I’m really enjoying.

“Football always changes. It’s about having a steady mindset. I’m still young, learning my craft, and there’s no rush to get where I know I can and want to be.

Meanwhile, Lewis Miley reflected on the competitiveness within the England camp, along with at club level.

“It’s been a really good camp and week at St. George’s Park,” explained Miley. “We have a really strong group which helps a lot, and we got the result tonight, so it’s about pushing forward to Slovakia.

“We all push each other. I link up really well with Jobe [Bellingham], and hopefully we can continue to do that.

“We have a really strong group at Newcastle [United], in midfield as well, so it’s really competitive in training.”

The Magpies’ midfielder discussed his past club ties with Elliot Anderson – now of Nottingham Forest – who has become a favourite under Thomas Tuchel since winning the UEFA U21 EUROs in the summer, using his transition as motivation.

“Elliot [Anderson] is doing really well,” continued Miley. “It’s really good to see what he’s doing, having come through the academy with him.

“We stay in contact every now and then, but everything is one hundred miles an hour in football.

“He was always a top player in training as well; everyone knew the qualities he had, and it’s showing now.”
