England pair ready for Erling Haaland reunion

England pair Marc Guéhi and Nico O’Reilly say they’re ready to face Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland when the Three Lions meet Norway in Saturday's quarter-final.

Manchester City's defensive duo joined host Andrew Mensah on Lions' Den connected by EE, the day after starting in a the Three Lions' thrilling 3-2 win over Mexico at their home ground, the Mexico City Stadium, in the Round of 16, to seal their place in the last eight.

And while O’Reilly admits it was ‘the craziest game that I've ever played in, in my whole career’ and Guéhi said ‘the hype was real, it was the loudest stadium I’ve played in’, the England squad are now turning their attentions to Saturday’s trip to Miami.

A familiar face

They will come face-to-face with their City teammate Erling Haaland, who has led the line for Norway with aplomb so far by scoring seven goals at the World Cup.

That included two goals in their Round of 16 victory over Brazil to set up an encounter with England.

"It's special and a great feeling [to reach the quarter-final],” admitted O’Reilly.

“But we haven't really got time for celebrating, we've got another tough game coming and every team is going to be tough, so we've got to be ready.”

Guéhi would normally be watching Haaland score his goals at the other end of the pitch to him most weeks, so how will he approach the prospect of defending against his usual teammate?

"It's going to be fun,” he said.

“I know he'll be up for it too, and like Nico said, it'll be a challenge.

"It'll be good to see some familiar faces and we'll try to do our best and get a win.”
