Harry Kane surprised Peter Crouch with his England legacy cap as the former Three Lions striker visited the squad at their FIFA World Cup 2026 training base on Wednesday.

Crouch, who won 42 international caps and scored 22 goals between 2005 and 2010, made the trip to Kansas City after attending Sunday’s thrilling 3-2 round of 16 win over Mexico.

He was pictured celebrating passionately with his former Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Kane after the final whistle, having watched the England captain score the winner from the penalty spot.

And Kane was on hand to embrace Crouch once more at Swope Soccer Village, this time after handing him legacy cap number 1,139 to mark his impact for the Three Lions.

“If my stats are right, I think 42 caps, 22 goals,” said Kane when presenting Crouch with his legacy cap in front of the squad. “Better than one in two, so as a striker at international level, that’s pretty impressive and something to be proud of.

“Obviously we had a nice celebration the other day [after beating Mexico]. But I know how much of a fan you are, of the boys and England in general, so this is for you, mate.”

Crouch, who represented his country at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, received a huge round of applause from the England squad as he got his hands on his legacy cap.

“Thank you very much, lads,” he said. “I wasn’t expecting this at all.

“I just want to put it back on you boys. I was in Mexico the other night and I thought it was easily - even playing the game and being a fan myself - one of the best performances I’ve seen and one of the best nights I’ve had in my life.

“What you boys are doing is absolutely incredible and what you’ve done is made the whole country start believing in the team.

“You’re not just inspiring kids to play football and be the next Harry Kane, you’re making the whole country proud and believing in what you’re doing.

“Congratulations. Thomas [Tuchel], you’ve done an incredible job as well, and I’m very proud as an Englishman to see you boys doing what you’re doing. So keep it up!”

Crouch has appeared on a special episode of Lions' Den Connected by EE, with host Andrew Mensah. You can watch it in full on the official England app here.
