Henderson back in the squad against Norway
England midfielder praises medical staff responsible for surgery for his injury suffered in Mexico
Jordan Henderson has praised the medical staff responsible for ensuring he could return to the substitutes’ bench for England’s FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Norway on Saturday.
The midfielder, playing in the fourth World Cup of his career, was named in the squad, five days after suffering an unfortunate injury in the celebrations of the Three Lions’ Round of 16 win against Mexico.
He has said he’s “alright” and has heaped praise on the doctors and surgeons responsible in Kansas, the location of Thomas Tuchel’s base camp, for his swift recovery.
'Delighted' to be back
Speaking to ITV ahead of the Norway match, he said of his injury: “It's alright, it's not my finest hour though.
"The main job was to go there and win to progress to the quarter-final and we managed to do that so that's the main thing.
"It's been a tough couple of days but as soon as I came back to camp and seen the lads, we've got a great medical team so I'm thankful for that and the doctors and surgeons in Kansas were amazing as well. So I'm very grateful and just delighted to be part of the squad again today."
"I think we need the same thing we showed in the last game, the resilience and character that we showed,” he added.
"There were a lot of obstacles to overcome and we'll have to show that again today against a very good Norwegian side with a lot of good players.
"It's a tough test for us, but if we're the best version of ourselves I'm confident we can win.”
