The Three Lions goalkeeper has gone past Peter Shilton on the list of World Cup appearances

England's Jordan Pickford has become the Three Lions' highest appearance maker in the FIFA World Cup, after starting against Norway in the quarter-final at the 2026 edition in North America.

The Everton man made his 18th appearance for England, across three tournaments, to take over another legendary goalkeeper, Peter Shilton who also featured in three World Cups himself in 1982, 1986 and 1990 and played 17 games at the pinnacle of international football.

Pickford made his World Cup debut during the 2018 tournament in Russia when England reached the semi-finals, before they followed that up by getting to the last eight at Qatar 2022.

And the former Sunderland star retained his spot as England's number one under Thomas Tuchel in North America, starting in all three of England's group stage games against Croatia, Ghana and Panama and the two knockout stages against DR Congo and Mexico.

Pickford also made his 30th consecutive major tournament appearance for the Three Lions in the game with Norway.

Three Lions captain Harry Kane has also now equalled Shilton's record, to move into joint second place.
