Three Lions legend Sir David Beckham paid tribute to the current squad after his 115 caps were commemorated

Sir David Beckham has received a legacy cap to mark his 115 caps in presentation by Three Lions captain Harry Kane after welcoming the squad to Inter Miami's training complex ahead of their FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final win over Norway

Thomas Tuchel and his squad flew from their Kansas City base to Florida after their 3-2 Round of 16 win over Mexico and immediately headed to Fort Lauderdale for their final training session ahead of Saturday’s 2-1 victory.

Former Three Lions captain Beckham, who won his 115 caps for his country across 13 years and five major tournaments, is a co-owner of MLS franchise Inter Miami, and he was on hand to greet Thomas Tuchel, Kane and the rest of the squad as they used his club’s state-of-the-art facilities.

And Beckham, who like Kane grew up in Chingford in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, attended the same Chingford Foundation School and began his football career with Ridgeway Rovers, received a surprise of his own as Kane presented him with his legacy cap.

Kane surpassed Beckham's England caps total in this FIFA World Cup, and Peter Shilton and Wayne Rooney are the only other players to have more caps than Beckham.

Kane said when presenting the legacy cap: "Sir David, thank you for coming. Thank you for having us.

"First and foremost, as you know, we have the Legacy Caps now. Number 1078 for you.

"I speak on behalf of me, and I think a lot of the guys in the room and a lot of ex-players as well. You were a big role model for me, a big inspiration.

"I think every time you wore the England shirt, you showed desire, you showed passion, you showed what it's like to lead your country.

"Five major tournaments, you played at three World Cups. Obviously, you're one of England's all-time greats, so it's an honour for me to present this to you."

Sir David Beckham said in response: "Thank you, and firstly, welcome to Miami. Obviously, this is very special, so thank you to you and to everyone here.

"I know you've probably heard it all before, but you're making everyone proud with everything that you're doing, not just on the field but off the field, and that's really important to the fans and to everyone back home.

"I know you feel it because you all hear everything about what is going on at home, and you're making everyone proud, so continue it.

"It's been incredible. You've got a leader here [Harry Kane] who leads by example, on and off the field, but every one of you is a leader, and that's been apparent in this World Cup.

"So continue to do it, continue to make us all proud. Thank you again."

Beckham showed his passion for England remains as strong as ever, captured celebrating Jude Bellingham's double against Norway to secure a semi-final place and singing the Three Lions' theme song this tournament, Wonderwall by Oasis, with his son Romeo in the stands.
