Report: Portugal 0-6 England MU19s
The Young Lions were unable to reach the EURO Finals despite an impressive performance
England under-19s were denied a place at UEFA U19 EURO 2026 despite a comfortable 6-0 win over Portugal.
Will Antwi’s side made it back-to-back victories with a fantastic performance which included a brace from Jesse Derry, along with goals from Max Dowman, Ezra Mayers, Shumaira Mheuka and Harry Howell.
Unfortunately, Serbia's triumph over Poland means they take top spot in Group 2 to book their place at the tournament.
The Young Lions got off to a flying start when Derry finished past Diogo Ferreira in the fourth minute.
Rio Ngumoha was next in line to try and advance England’s lead, but the tricky winger saw his effort blocked by the Portuguese defence.
With the hosts looking for a route back into the fixture, Oliver Whatmuff denied two attempts on goal from Anísio Cabral.
The Young Lions doubled their lead five minutes after the restart when Dowman’s effort surpassed Ferreira.
With momentum in full swing of Antwi’s side, Derry got his second goal of the evening on the 60 minute mark.
England showed maturity beyond their years when Mayers and Howell extended England’s lead in the final stages.
And with the hosts having no reply, the Young Lions kept a crucial clean sheet in the fixture after a dominant display.
