Bellingham: Kane is only getting better
The England midfielder heaps praise on his captain after a record-equalling 125th cap against Czechia
Jude Bellingham believes Harry Kane is “only getting better” after the England captain became the Three Lions’ joint most-capped player of all time.
Kane made his 125th appearance for his country in Tuesday night’s UEFA Nations League clash against Czechia, equalling the record held by legendary former goalkeeper Peter Shilton.
And the Bayern Munich striker ensured his milestone match was even more memorable, scoring twice and assisting an own goal in a comfortable 3-0 victory for Thomas Tuchel’s men.
Kane’s standout performance came as no surprise to Bellingham, who admitted it’s been an “honour” to play alongside the Three Lions captain.
“There's not really much more you can say that hasn't already been said,” Bellingham told ITV after lining up alongside Kane for his landmark appearance.
"I can only really talk from my perspective and that's that he's, first and foremost, an unbelievable human being.
“As a captain, as a man, he looks after each and every single person, he's the one to always take responsibility when something needs doing off the pitch.
"Then on the pitch, you're running out of superlatives - he's the best England player that's ever worn the shirt and it's an honour to play with him."
Asked if Kane is playing better than ever, Bellingham said: "I think you'd have to say so. He's playing at a level which is pretty unmatched when you look across the world.
"He's scoring goals for fun, still dropping deep and delivering those passes in behind and wide, and contributing in so many areas... and he's getting back as well, tackles and everything!
"He's only getting better, so we'll have to use that for as long as we can."
Reflecting on the victory over Czechia, which was England’s third in a row following a narrow opening defeat to Spain, Bellingham said: “It was what we needed.
“At home I know it's difficult when teams come here because they sit deep and they try and frustrate us a little bit and you look at the scoreline like you said - three goals and a clean sheet, you can never be too frustrated with that,
“We've just come off a 7-0 [win over Croatia] - everyone wants to go for more but we got the job done. We did it professionally.”
Bellingham starred in the win in Rijeka on Saturday, scoring once and laying on three assists in a performance reminiscent of the ones he put in consistently during last summer’s World Cup.
“I'm enjoying my football first and foremost,” the Real Madrid midfielder added.
“Obviously I’ve come off a bit of a tough year last season, but I learned a lot about myself and I learned a lot about things I can do to make life easy, especially with England.
“I'm trying my best all the time to be better and better.”
