The Three Lions captain has become England's joint most-capped men's player against Czechia tonight

Harry Kane expects a “special night” as he becomes England’s joint most-capped senior men’s player of all time against Czechia this evening.

The Three Lions captain earned his 125th cap for his country in Tuesday’s UEFA Nations League clash at Wembley Stadium after being named in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI.

Kane, who equals the record held by legendary goalkeeper Peter Shilton, is already England’s all-time leading goalscorer, having found the back of the net 89 times since making his debut back in March 2015.

The Bayern Munich striker reflected on his latest international milestone before kick-off at Wembley and remembered his debut goal against Lithuania more than 11 years ago.

Asked whether tonight was more special than normal in an interview with ITV, Kane said: “I think so.

“It’s always special. Walking out now, seeing the stadium without the fans, the excitement of what’s to come, the game ahead.

“I try to never take it for granted. It’s obviously a special night. As always, we’ve got to focus on the job.”

Discussing his memorable debut, which saw him score his first goal just 79 seconds after coming off the bench, Kane added: “I was waiting on the sidelines for ages waiting to come on. I came on for Wazza [Wayne Rooney] and obviously… just as I dreamt it.

“Coming on at Wembley, scoring within a few minutes, wheeling off and celebrating. It was the start of something special.

“I’m extremely proud to play for England and that was an amazing moment for me, my family and everyone involved. I’ve been lucky enough to do it a fair few more times.”

Kane has reached the last two European Championship finals with the Three Lions and the World Cup semi-finals in 2018 and 2026, but is yet to lift an international trophy.

Asked if the best is still to come while representing his country, he said: “That’s the aim.

“We’ve been extremely close. I feel like we’re closer than we’ve ever been before. We’re in a good place, I’m in a good place.

“The team is strong and hungry, and you saw that in the last game [against Croatia] especially. Now it’s about continuing that.”
