Report: Israel 1-2 England

England men’s under-17s secured a 2-1 victory over Israel in their second game of the international window, as they kicked-off the first of three games in Germany.

An Israel own goal, followed by Hezekiah-Daniel Grimwade’s second-half strike, proved to be enough after a late first-half goal saw the Young Lions trail in Duisburg, where England are participating in a four-nation tournament.

In a dominant first-half display, England had several key chances to score but failed to find the opening goal.

Israel capitalised and took a 1-0 lead into the interval through Ariel Dorra, after the Young Lions’ appeals for offside were waved away by referee Arun Singh Ghotra.

Barry Lewtas’ side continued to create chances in the early stages of the second half, but Israel goalkeeper Yoav Ribak was proving hard to beat as the pressure mounted.

Eventually, the Young Lions levelled the game midway through the half, forcing an own goal from their opponents.

And just minutes later, England turned the game around through Hezekiah-Daniel Grimwade, as the Chelsea forward received the ball on the move, and finished past Ribak before celebrating acrobatically.

The Young Lions held on for victory in Germany, and will face Venezuela on Thursday 1 October at 10:30am.
