Anthony Gordon's tribute to Trent

Anthony Gordon paid tribute to his teammate and fellow Liverpudlian Trent Alexander-Arnold, after their link-up on the pitch led to the opening goal against Czechia.

The Three Lions had found themselves up against a resolute Czech side, reduced to ten men, in the first half with no breakthrough.

But when Real Madrid ace Alexander-Arnold - in his first start for England in almost two years - whipped in a cross from the right two minutes after the restart, Gordon was on the spot to head home the opener before Harry Kane doubled the advantage 20 minutes later.

“Not many [players can make Trent Alexander-Arnold’s assist], I think I said that to him when I scored,” said Gordon after the game.

“I'll make that run time and time again and only a certain number of players have got that ability and technique.

“Great credit to Trent, that's why he's so good and I've been dying to play with him.

“He's had his own journey with England and probably would have liked to play more than he has.

“He's been a great character this camp. I've really enjoyed being around him. He’s trained really well. He's going to be a great addition.”

To top it off, the Barcelona man admits it was a rare headed goal for him as he notched his third goal in his last three games for England.

“I think it's my only header,” he laughed.

“I’m probably the worst header of the ball you will ever see but I'm really happy and really proud to have scored that, because I can’t tell you how many hours I have spent in training.

“But it's really important because although I think we played well against Spain, we didn’t win and we need wins, especially in this competition."
