- Peter Shilton’s international career spanned such a length of time that he appeared 12 times alongside a player whose debut for the Three Lions came in 1962 (Bobby Moore) and 13 times alongside a player whose international career continued until 2000 (Tony Adams). He also made 16 appearances alongside Paul Gascoigne, who was only born three years before Shilton made his debut in 1970. The gap of 19 years and 224 days between his first and last games are the second-most in England’s history.

- When he appeared on his debut in November 1970, Shilton was England’s youngest goalkeeper (21 years, 68 days) since Alan Hodgkinson in May 1957. Since that appearance, only two goalkeepers have appeared for England at a younger age (Joe Hart in 2008 and Jack Butland in 2012). By the time of his last appearance in 1990, Shilton was the third-oldest player to appear for the Three Lions, aged 40 years and 292 days.

- Only three England players have appeared in more major tournament (World Cup + Euros) matches than Peter Shilton (20), with his 20 appearances the most of any goalkeeper.

- Shilton, however, holds the record for most caps for England at the World Cup, playing 17 times at the 1982, 1986 and 1990 editions.

- Shilton appeared for England while playing for five different clubs (Leicester, Stoke, Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Derby), one of only five players to do so in the history of the Three Lions.

- Shilton also holds the record for most appearances for England at Wembley, playing 52 matches there, eight more than any other player.
