- Billy Wright was the first player to win 100 caps for England, doing so in April 1959 in a Home Nations match against Scotland. His career spanned such a length of time that he won caps alongside players who made their debuts before the Second World War in 1934 (Raich Carter, Stanley Matthews, Tommy Lawton) and played 14 games with Bobby Charlton, whose last game was during the 1970 World Cup. In total, he represented England alongside 137 different players.
- Wright captained England on 90 occasions, a record he held until World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore equalled him in 1973.
- Wright once played in 70 consecutive England internationals between 1951 and 1959 – captaining England in every match – an all-time record for the Three Lions. No other player has ever played in more than 40 consecutive England games.
- Wright’s longevity saw him win 50 caps after turning 30, the most of any outfield player in England’s history.
