Report: England WU18s 1-5 Portugal
England WU18s were beaten 5-1 by Portugal on Wednesday evening.
A development squad consisting of players eligible for the Under-18s and Under-19s have travelled to Portugal for three matches.
The WU19s got things underway on Wednesday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over Norway in the Algarve Cup, which was swiftly followed by the WU18s’ match with Portugal.
England WU18s had taken the lead on 41 minutes when Keira Flannery scored with a low shot from outside the box which the goalkeeper was unable to save.
But on the stroke of half time, Portugal equalised through Maria Ferreira and the hosts would go on to score four in the second period.
Daniela Santos made it 2-1 when she scored from close range from a corner and within three minutes, it was 3-1 when Ana Carolina latched on to a through-ball to score.
An own-goal from Katie Reid then made it 4-1 before Beatriz Nogueira completed the scoring with a side-footed finish into the bottom corner.
Next up for the Young Lionesses is the WU19s’ game with Netherlands on Monday (kick-off 1pm GMT).
