Young Lions draw their final game of the 2023-24 UEFA Under-19 Championship qualifying round

ENGLAND MU19s: FIND OUT MORE

England MU19s face an anxious wait to see whether they will reach the UEFA Under-19 Championship finals next summer after their 0-0 draw with Austria.

The top two in each of the 13 qualifying round groups progress to the elite round of qualifying along with the third-place team with the best record against the top two.

England MU19s’ 0-0 draw with Montenegro, 1-1 with Wales and tonight’s 0-0 with Austria meant Simon Rusk’s side finished third in Group 12 but with several of the other groups still to take place, the Young Lions will have to wait for confirmation around whether they will progress to the elite round of qualifying.

Clear-cut chances were hard to come by in the first half against Austria, although Jobe Bellingham had a header saved from close range and Luca Gunter produced a fine stop to parry away Furkan Dursun’s header.

England piled on the pressure in the second half and Dominic Ballard went close when he swivelled and fired over from close range.

Archie Gray had a fine long-range strike pushed away at the near post and Adrian Blake produced a fine dribble into the box before firing over and wide.

England looked set to score following a set-piece delivery as the ball was nodded back across goal but Jakob Scholler produced an outstanding goal-saving header close to his line.

Nathan Lowe also had a header at the far post go close but unfortunately, the Young Lions had to settle for a goalless draw.
