Pupils from across 15 local schools were provided with an experience they’re not likely to forget on Friday 6 June, as our Communities Together initiative opened the doors of St. George’s Park to allow an opportunity to experience the home of England’s teams.

Communities Together is the FA’s action plan that outlines our ongoing commitment to using the power of football to drive positive change by connecting, supporting and inspiring local communities in the areas of both Brent and Burton; the homes of Wembley Stadium and St. George’s Park respectively.

The focus of Communities Together is to ensure that our iconic facilities are accessible and welcoming, so that we can provide memorable moments and inspirational opportunities for our neighbours.

Pupils from 15 local schools were invited to St. George's Park on 6 June 2025 for a day of skill sessions, small-sided matches

Kevin Sanders, The FA’s Elite Sports & Partnerships Manager, said: “Every season, we bring schools from local communities, with the support of Burton Albion Community Trust and our college providers, to really celebrate the work we do at St. George’s Park for our local community. It’s about bringing everyone together and providing the opportunity to showcase their own skillset at the home of England; really giving them the chance to experience what this place is all about.”

Pupils in attendance were able to enjoy a series of skill sessions delivered by coaches, before playing in a mini tournament hosted on the David Beckham Pitch.

Later in the day, the children’s experience was made more special, when they had the opportunity to provide England’s men’s Under-21 side with a special farewell as the Young Lions departed St. George’s Park to defend their Under-21 European Championship in Slovakia.

Kevin added: “We aim to inspire everyone, bringing together the next generation of potential football players to wear the Three Lions badges, all the way through to giving the community access to this inspirational place to showcase what we’re doing to support all levels of the game.

“It’s a little-known fact that St. George’s Park is open to the community. We also provide 56 teams the opportunity to come and train with us on a weekly basis, using our facilities. That give opportunities to over 400 children to be here on site and have access to these state-of-the-art facilities.”
