Watch the new series 'Building the Dream'

England fans can get an unprecedented look at Thomas Tuchel’s time as the Three Lions’ head coach so far in a new documentary on the road to the FIFA World Cup 2026 and their first Group Stage match against Croatia at 9pm BST on 17 June.

‘Building the Dream, England’s Road to the World Cup’ is a three-part series charting the former Chelsea boss’ journey to the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer.

The must-watch series is now available in full, exclusively via the official England app.

Part 1, 'Lift Off' was released on 31 May. Part 2, 'Unbeaten' went live on 7 June. Part 3, 'Ultimate Prize' was released at 5pm BST on 14 June.

Produced ahead of England’s bid to win their first major tournament since the 1966 World Cup, the documentary features in-depth interviews with Tuchel himself, his assistant coach Anthony Barry, captain Harry Kane and a host of other players in the squad.

In the first episode, Tuchel discusses his motivation for taking on what has been described by some as the ‘impossible job’ and reveals he first fancied the challenge five years ago.

“When I was coach of Chelsea during the 2021 EUROs, all the matches played at Wembley did something to the country and did something to the region around London,” Tuchel said.

“I just remember calling my agent and telling him ‘you cannot believe what’s going on, people are so excited for the national team’. When England is playing, they’re all up for England and I was not used to that and it was so nice to see.

“I even said to him that it’d be a dream to be the national coach, it’s amazing, and he replied: ‘have you checked your passport?! You have a German passport, my friend, that will not happen!’ So I’m very happy that he was wrong and we proved him wrong.”

Episode 2: Unbeaten

With insight from the likes of Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Morgan Rogers and Ezri Konsa, the second instalment resumes in September 2025, mid-way through Tuchel’s third camp as the England boss.

The Three Lions travelled to Belgrade, putting in a five-star performance against Serbia – perhaps their biggest test en-route to the tournament to date.

And they secured qualification the following month with a 5-0 win over Latvia in Riga with two games to spare.

“It was a really special campaign,” explained Three Lions captain Kane. “I think sometimes it’s taken for granted because we made qualifying look easier than what it is.

“To go through the whole campaign without conceding a goal is just credit to everyone involved. It’s a real high achievement.”

Episode 3: Ultimate Prize

The last episode begins with a focus on the Three Lions’ March camp, which saw Tuchel name an enlarged 35-man squad for friendlies against Japan and Uruguay at Wembley Stadium connected by EE.

Fans also get to see HRH Prince William’s special visit to the ‘team behind the team’ at St. George’s Park and interviews with Aston Villa duo Morgan Rogers and Ezri Konsa, who reminisce about their favourite England World Cup memories.

Speaking in the final episode, Tuchel says: “I’m excited to be a coach again for six and hopefully seven weeks, and to be close to these players."
