Alessia Russo is hopeful that the 2026-27 campaign can be one to remember for the Lionesses.

The Arsenal forward was in fine form last season, featuring in all 10 England fixtures and scoring five goals, and that form was recognised by thousands of fans who voted Russo as England Women’s Player of the Year 2025–26, connected by EE.

The Lionesses are currently preparing for the second leg of their FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 Round 1 play-off against Greece on Tuesday, when they will be aiming to move one step closer to qualifying for next summer's tournament and the 27-year-old spoke positively about what lies ahead for Sarina Wiegman's side.

“It feels amazing [to win Player of the Year],” she said.

“I absolutely love playing for England, any moment I get, so it feels really nice and hopefully we’ll go onto have a really big year.”

Russo began the Lionesses 2026-27 campaign with a goal in the FIFA Women's World Cup Round 1 play-off against Greece.

Russo was speaking as she answered questions from fans who selected her in the Player of the Year vote.

The Q&A, which is available to watch exclusively on the official England app, also revealed her favourite goal from last season, her go to karaoke song and the TV series she is currently binge watching.

In amongst those answers, Russo also revealed her advice for young girls hoping to be part of the next generation of Lionesses.

“I would say, firstly, just enjoy it,” she added.

“Have fun, I know I play my best football when I am enjoying it and having fun, so remember why you started.”
